Delta Medical, a leading Swiss pharmaceutical company, proudly sponsored the “IRON ACADEMY” project – a series of educational lectures and roundtable discussions focused on the critical issue of iron deficiency anemia (IDA) in Kazakhstan.
The events, held in various cities including Astana, Almaty, and Kyzylorda, brought together over 350 healthcare professionals including obstetrician-gynecologists, hematologists, and therapists.
Iron deficiency anemia remains a significant public health concern in Kazakhstan, especially among pregnant women and children. Untreated IDA during pregnancy can lead to serious complications for both mother and child. The IRON ACADEMY aimed to raise awareness about the importance of timely diagnosis and appropriate treatment of this condition.
Renowned experts such as Professor Khamidullia Z.G, Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Astana Medical University, and Dr. Sharipova H.K, Associate Professor from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Astana, delivered informative presentations highlighting the latest protocols from the Kazakhstan Ministry of Health for managing IDA.
They emphasized the safety and efficacy of modern intravenous iron formulations like ferric carboxymaltose (Ferinject) for treating moderate to severe anemia in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. For milder iron deficiency, oral iron medicines such as ferrous sulfate (Maltofer) were recommended.
Other notable speakers included Dr. Dinara Mirzakhmetova, Acting Chair of Board of the Scientific Center of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Perinatology. Dr. Mirzakhmetova discussed diagnostic methods and treatment approaches for IDA, and Dr. Uanov A.M. from Turkestan who discussed the role of Ferinject and Maltofer at different stages of pregnancy depending on anemia severity.
The lectures underscored Delta Medical’s commitment to educating healthcare providers about their comprehensive portfolio of iron products from Vifor Pharma, a world leader in this therapeutic area.
“We are very pleased with the success of the IRON ACADEMY project,” said Alma Amangeldina, Country Manager of Delta Medical Kazakhstan. “As a company dedicated to improving health, it is our responsibility to facilitate the exchange of scientific knowledge and best clinical practices.
